A FOOD PROTECTION MANAGER CERTIFICATION/BASSET CARD - A VALUABLE SIGN OF ACCOMPLISHMENT
Anyone who is in charge of the day-to-day operations in a place that serves food to the public, such as a restaurant, bar, food truck, or hospital, must hold a Food Protection Manager Certification to show they understand food safety.
People in Illinois who serve alcohol in a bar, restaurant, hotel, or another on-premise setting are required to know the laws that govern its sale and obtain a BASSET card. Having training that covers the laws and different situations involved in serving alcohol will make you more confident and a more valuable employee. The training will help you respond effectively to many situations that occur in the alcohol serving setting.
HOW IS A FOOD MANAGER CERTIFICATION/BASSET CARD USED?
Holding a Food Manager Certification shows employers that you understand food safety and health regulations and have the knowledge needed to oversee food handling and processing operations. Employers can check your certification status through our online system.
Presenting a BASSET card shows you have had training in alcohol safety and regulations and laws. It shows you have the knowledge required to serve alcoholic beverages responsibly. Upon successfully completing the BASSET training, you will be given a temporary copy good for 30 days, during which time you will receive the official BASSET card in the mail.
When applying for jobs, you may call yourself a "Responsible Training Food Protection Manager Certification Recipient" or a "Responsible Training BASSET Program Recipient".
You may not say or imply that you are "certified," "certificated," "licensed," "registered" or "accredited"; these terms indicate a different type of program than food manager training.
Your Food Protection Manager Certification will be valid for 5 years and your BASSET Card will be valid for 3 years.
