A FOOD HANDLER/ BASSET CERTIFICATE- A VALUABLE SIGN OF ACCOMPLISHMENT

Anyone who works in a place that serves food/alcohol in the State of Illinois, such as a restaurant, bar, or hotel, should hold a Food Handler Certificate to show they understand food safety. If you come into contact with food during preparation, cooking, serving, or cleaning, this training will be valuable for your job. Additionally, anyone who handles and serves alcohol on their job would benefit from a BASSET Card. Not only will it help you understand the law, but it can help your employer avoid fines and legal troubles.

HOW IS A FOOD HANDLER CERTIFICATE/BASSET CARD USED?

Holding a Food Handler Certificate shows employers that you have passed the minimum requirement of understanding food safety. Employers can check your certificate status through our online system.

Holding a BASSET Certificate is a requirement for most employers, with the On-Premise meant for waiters/waitresses and bartenders. Completing a BASSET Seller-Server Training course will show your employer that you have taken the time to learn the laws that govern the sale of alcohol.

You may not say or imply that you are "certified," "certificated," "licensed," "registered" or "accredited"; these terms indicate a different type of program than food handler and seller-server training.

FOR HOW LONG IS THE CERTIFICATE VALID?

The Food Handler Certificate is valid for 3 years in all states that have adopted the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) standard. The TABC Certificate is also valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
