The Responsible Training Texas Certified Food Manager Exam consists of 75 multiple choice or true/false questions. There are two possible versions of the exam, which are assigned randomly. 

 The minimum passing score is 70%. If you do not pass the exam the first time, one free retake is allowed. 

 After passing the exam, the certificate is available for immediate download.

Who needs to be a Certified Food Manager in Texas?

Texas requires a Certified Food Manager (CFM) certificate for individuals in charge of food establishments that prepare, handle, or serve non-prepackaged food.

Is the certificate state-approved?

Yes. The Texas Department of State Health Services has approved the Responsible Training Certified Food Manager program and exam.

How long does it take to complete?

The exam has a 90 minute time limit. So, you should have your certificate in less than two hours.

What will I be tested on in the exam?

This exam will assess your knowledge and understanding in:

  • Highly Susceptible Populations and FDA Food Code Terminology
  • Foodborne Illness
  • Health Inspections and Facility Maintenance
  • Food Management Responsibilities
  • Food Controls
  • Proper Cleaning and Sanitizing Measures for Food Equipment
  • Employee Hygiene
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
  • Proper Use of Chemicals and Pest Control

There are two possible test forms you can take. Both test forms are equivalent with the same minimum passing score of 70%.

Do I need to schedule the final exam?

No. Our on-demand exam is available 24/7. There is no remote proctor, just some security questions.

How does this exam work?

Before you start the exam you are asked to answer 10 security questions. During the exam, you will occasionally be asked to provide the answers you saved to these questions. If you answer incorrectly, you will be locked out of the course and need to call support and request the exam be unlocked.

Can I take the course and exam on a mobile device?

The Texas Certified Food Manager exam has no proctor, so you can take it on your computer, tablet, or smart phone.

When do I get my certificate?
