The ANAB-CFP Food Protection Manager Certificate Program Exam consists of 75 multiple choice questions. There are two possible versions of the exam, which are assigned randomly. 

The minimum passing score is 75% +\- 0.1%. If you do not pass the exam the first time, one free retake is allowed. 

After passing the exam, the certificate is available for download within 1-2 days to allow for review of the exam session.

Who needs a Food Protection Manager Certificate?

Most states require a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) be employed by food service facilities. Many states require a CFPM to be on site during hours of operation.  

Is the certificate state-approved?

Responsible Training's Certified Food Protection Manager food safety exams are accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and are accepted by most states. Some states or locales may have additional requirements, such allergen awareness training. Check with your local health department to confirm the rules and regulations where you work.

How long does it take to complete?

The exam has a 2 hour time limit.

What will I be tested on in the exam?

This exam will assess your knowledge and understanding in:

  • Highly Susceptible Populations and FDA Food Code Terminology - 7%
  • Foodborne Illness - 9%
  • Health Inspections and Facility Maintenance - 5%
  • Food Management Responsibilities - 7%
  • Food Controls - 23%
  • Proper Cleaning and Sanitizing Measures for Food Equipment - 19%
  • Employee Hygiene - 7%
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) - 19%
  • Proper Use of Chemicals and Pest Control 5%

There are two possible test forms you can take. Both test forms are equivalent with the same minimum passing score of 75% +\- 0.1%.

Do I need to schedule the final exam?

No. Our on-demand remote proctored exam is available 24/7. You just start the exam and within a few minutes a live proctor will come online to get you started.

How does remote proctoring work?

Once you have completed the course, you are ready to take the exam. The exam will have a Remote Proctor, meaning that you will need a computer with a camera and audio, which allows a remote live proctor to observe you while you take the exam.

In order to take your certification exam, you must have a system that meets the requirements and a valid ID. Watch the video to see all the rules that our proctoring partner, Integrity Advocate, enforces to ensure the exam is taken securely. 

Once you’ve set up your exam area and the Integrity Advocate proctor has approved, you may begin the exam. You must score a passing grade of 75% to receive your Food Protection Manager Certification.

Your certification will become available in your account within 1-2 business days after passing the exam.

Can I take the exam on a mobile device?

No. You must take the exam on a computer with working camera, mic, and speakers.

When do I get my certificate?

You’ll receive your Responsible Training Food Protection Manager Certificate within 1 to 2 days after passing the final exam.
