Illinois: A New BASSET Law is Taking Effect July 1, 2018

Bartenders and baristas: are you BASSET-certified within the state of Illinois? We have some news for you. With the passing of Public Act 098-0939, the entire state of Illinois will be required to have a BASSET certification by July 1, 2018.

For those who are probably thinking, “I’m confused, I thought this law already rolled out...”, you’re half right. Back in the summer of 2015, a county-by-county, population-based version of this law did take effect on July 1, 2015. So some jurisdictions already require BASSET training even if the required July 1, 2018 date under the new version of the statute has not yet taken effect. So for example, the following counties are the only ones remaining to have the BASSET requirement take effect, and will require you to be BASSET certified by July 1 of this year:

  • Alexander County
  • Bond County
  • Brown County
  • Calhoun County
  • Carroll County
  • Cass County
  • Clark County
  • Clay County
  • Crawford County
  • Cumberland County
  • De Witt County
  • Douglas County
  • Edgar County
  • Edwards County
  • Fayette County
  • Ford County
  • Gallatin County
  • Greene County
  • Hamilton County
  • Hancock County
  • Hardin County
  • Henderson County
  • Iroquois County
  • Jasper County
  • ...and more.
